Another Sotheby's director dinged

Update: Corrects Michael Sovern's title to chairman of the board sted CEO.

It was supposed to be a grand evening, the opening at the Schubert Theater of a Broadway play called "The Mountaintop," about Martin Luther King Jr.

Only MLK would have been out on the sidewalk with the Teamsters protesters, passing out handbills asking the Schubert and its board to end the lockout at Sotheby’s Auction House.

Schubert Organization board member Michael Sovern is Sotheby's chairman of the board.

The protesters distributed handbills that read “Michael Sovern: Stop the Discrimination” and “America cannot become a better nation when a company like Sotheby’s sends workers into poverty and unemployment lines.”

The play celebrates Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech supporting the right of African-American workers in Memphis to improve their jobs and their lives. Meanwhile, the theater’s board condones the destruction of good New York jobs. You gotta wonder.

New York City is getting to be a tough town for Sotheby's socialites. Tonight, Occupy Wall Street labor activists disrupted at least one -- possibly two -- restaurants owned by another Sotheby director, Danny Meyer.

That's because they spread suffering (sorry) among Teamsters Local 814 art handlers who've been out of work for months.
